A Day Trip...

What's this Mom...lemme go, I need to get in here...

The old Port Louisa Cemetery, not many buried here, but the allure of a homestead on the 'bottoms' brought many a settler to her fertile fields, though flooded nearly every year, it was a chance taken for bountiful crops.

Burial grounds of Native Americans also dot the hillsides, as this was once fertile hunting grounds for them as well. All work on the highway was stopped as these sites were uncovered, so archaeologists could do their thing...I remember walking here with the 'X' and finding many an arrow head and shard, even an ax head.

These fertile fields 'long side the Mississippi River are also home to many waterfowl, as a refuge, it is set aside for them. It's a beautiful sight in the spring when flights are back for breeding, Canada Geese and ducks of all kinds can be found.

and at last, a barn...relic of my world, it's beauty seen only in the eye of a romantic...of a world of hard labor and testament to a world changed, where a simple life is no longer possible to make a living, as factory farms have squelched the family farm and made them struggle into demise...into my world of beauty past.
