This is so out of character

The pink princess strikes again... Lorie is a pink girlie girl, loves that bohemian look of Magnolia Pearl, but knows that in our biz, the bibs will do just fine...I'm getting a visual of a skirt hanging out of a dumpster...I, on the other hand 10+ years her senior, am the Earth Mother... jeans, Ts and flannel shirts, besides I learned a long time ago that I can't stay clean for 5 minutes, so why even try...but a lard press...now we have a lotta different stuff in the store, so why not a lard press...I just can't believe Lorie had one, well maybe I can believe it, I have seen her storage unit. Hate to admit it, but me and the 'X' used to process our own deer, so the lard press was great for stuffing sausages...ahhh, the good ol' days...right. Lorie had one comment...gross.

Funny story

I love the look of old pictures with tattered frames and water stains of someone elses family in my home, it's comforting to me and gives the house an ownership of past residents, even though I have no clue who these people are, they just look cool on the walls. But back in the day, when I was married, we all know how most men can spend soooooooo much time in the loo, I just had to go for it and see if it had an effect... and it did...this is the picture I placed directly across from the loo, for some reason or another it forced the resident into early departure...not the reason for the departure of our marraige...or was it???

Oh yeah...the comment...

When you add a new piece to the mix, the domino effect happens. It just squeezes the look you wanted just ever so slightly, so you have to move the next piece, but the colors just don't work, so maybe I'll just move this piece a little closer and bring that piece from over there...well, you know the rest of the story...I spent the ENTIRE day rearranging the whole store. But the fun thing is, when I come in tomorrow morning the shop will look FAB, because I will have new eyes and all I have to do is tweek it. I know you know what I am talking about.

For the love of white

What is it about white that so fascinates us? Is it the calm serenity of it, is the the crispness in all seasons, is the vision we have when we find a piece of furniture that is just wailing MAKEOVER. Some pieces are just destined for the glow, others are chosen to fit a vinette, but the white is queen to any setting, you just can't go wrong...

This is just wrong...

OK now, you always hear me saying, "where's Lorie"...but this is why I never take my camera out of my pocket. I can't leave her alone for 5 minutes!!! But I have to admit, she does drag in some good trash...I mean inventory...for a short person she shows no fear (or shame)...gotta love er...

Trunks

I don't know what it is about trunks, but I have this fascination with them. This one is particularly cool with it's beveled top and the perfect combination of silver metal and rust. I thought it looked very Frenchy, so must have. It is in really good shape structurally too.

Work in progress

This was a great buffet find, but the finish left little to be desired, so off to the studio for a new finish. After careful deliberation, I decided on black. It would've been great in the whites too, but for some reason, black was the chosen one.

Interesting finish

I love experimenting with paint finishes. This cute lil'commode is cream colored, with a darker wash over the top. First you paint the piece with your first coat, let it dry, then put on your second coat VERY thick and hatch-crossed all over with different strokes to give the paint an old look. Then you steal the hairdryer out of the bath and blow it on the drying paint until it cracks, then let it dry with a fan on it. You have to do it one side at a time, because the paint will run until it is totally dry. Then when you have completed the whole thing, water down some dark brown paint in an old bowl, very runny, but enough to put a wash on the piece and let it sit for a few minutes, then with a damp rag, wipe it off. It is best to wait until the next day so the piece is totally dry, or you may rub some paint off. But even as the wash has dried, you can still rub some off to give it a really old dirty look, then sand the edges and put on a finish or not, I do the tops with clear Bri-wax. I have a lotta fun with this technique, I also do it on my walls, but you must use flat paint on furniture, doesn't matter on walls...have fun.

Art Deco

Love this Deco cupboard filled with laces, one of Vikki's treasures that will soon depart her ownership. Such is the life of the collector, easy come (sometimes), easy go. The vinettes in the store are so much fun to play with, but then someone just has to bring in a new piece and the game of furniture dominos begins again. But we love it when people notice things that have been moved around and claim that it must all be new stuff...ha.
