Annie Sloan style on the cheap...

First ya take an awesome old, Victorian chest...

Then ya start to paint...no prime, no sand...
I used Pittsburgh Ultra paint~'Knight's Armour'.
1 1/2 C. paint, 1/4 C. Plaster Paris, 1/4 C. hot water
mix good, then paint, it covers great.

I wanted a faux zinc finish for this piece,
so in this process I completely waxed on a layer
of Johnson's paste wax, let it dry and buffed,
then lightly sanded edges to distress...
then I put on another coat of wax adding
a dab of silver latex paint to my wax brush
and painted it on all over the surface,
then buff when dry.

Kinda hard to see, but it has an uneven
metallic sheen sorta like zinc.

Love the look and the paint covered
marvelously, with an awesome satin finish.
Always work with small batches,
as the paint becomes grainy in a day or so,
but this one batch I made covered all this stuff!

Tools of the trade...
my cheapo version of the expensive
stipple brush...$2.00 on the cheap...lol!

 Then I painted a chair...

 and a parlor table...
Then staged it in the front window
of the shop...
I love to play with paint
and it doesn't have to cost you an
arm and a leg to do it...
JUST BE BRAVE...
AND CRAZY(it helps)

Faux...fire...

We're starting to get some really cold temps
here in Iowa, but I'm gonna make it a whole
lot warmer...I made me a quicky fireplace...

I had this really cool buffet mantel I thought
would be a great fireplace surround...
I also had two leaves from an old table in storage...
so I just stuck them behind the mantel, then
washed them with a tan paint wash to match the mantel.

I'll be looking for a pair of corbels to attach to
the mantel to connect the buffet top to the table leaves.
I also had this old wood stove out in my shop
that I've been wanting to turn into a candle stand...

Putting three candles inside puts out quite
a bit of heat out of the flew hole,
plus gives that glow of a fire that we all love
in the winter...using repurposed junk and
a bit of ingenuity, I got me some ambiance...

Autumn...

 Out my kitchen window...
brrrrr, it's cold today!

 No summer colors,
only the shades of grey...

Some new growth after the drought,
but a hard freeze will end the struggle.

The scent of lavender lingers still...

A last load of grooming towels,
not too many days left for laundry on the line.

Tattered and worn, the signs of summer
and my country...gone, America...

Whatsa girl to do...

The fun thing about having a shop
is the constant moving of stuff around.
If something has been in the shop for too long,
I either take it to another location
or I bring it home...
I'm speaking of the old buffet topper
and the oak chest.
WTH...
But I never worry about it,
I just fit it in until it's time to move it out
or paint it, but some pieces I
just haven't the heart to paint.
These both have been stripped and
no finish applied...raw wood,
I especially love that in my home!
AND I can always use another surface
to set more crap on...
to put it bluntly..............
it sucks to be me...lol!
