First day of summer...

I begin the watch, as the storm picks up momentum to the Northwest of me, that's up by Kalona, where Sister's Garden is.

Another storm forms South of the first storm as the sun begins to set...

Storms converge to make fabulous sky scape of hidden danger, as the first of the tornado watches are issued...

I haven't heard back from anyone yet, nor have I heard of anything major, in spite of a tornado that was spotted on the ground, heading for Kalona and Lone Tree, where my good buds live...my fingers and toes are crossed, as this storm was producing severe lightning, quite the lightning storm from my windows, but it never did reach us...yayyy...

NEXT...let the summer games begin...my bag is packed and ready for the trip to the basement...welcome to tornado alley...

Shadow Shot Sunday...I am Summer's Child...

I am geraniums
and gliders in the backyard
and blue skies of promise
and good future.

I am bare feet
and pony tails in the heat of the day
and Bermuda shorts and tank tops
and the promise of play.

I am screened porches
and lace curtains on the breeze
white sheets on clotheslines
and the new scented day.

I am dew drops on petals
and rainbows after the storm
I am puddles and dew worms
and fishing by the stream.

I am summer
and I'm warm and I'm beautiful
I am constant and fruitful
and my playful promise unfurls.

I am a child
I am summer
I am sunshine
and s'mores...

Shadow Shot Sunday...where is the time rushing off to...soon it will be July and summer in full force...head on down to Australia where it's winter...how weird is that...why can't it be summer all year long???
Thanks Tracy for this wonderful meme and all of our wonderful new friends...

I caved...

Thought we could use a little air conditioning this morning...I know, I know...so I caved last night about 2:30 in the morning...you remember those days as a kid when it was so hot you laid in your well-worn, seersucker jammies in front of the oscillating fan...remember the hum, as it lulled you to sleep, forcing you to cuddle up under the clean white sheets...ahh, those days are long gone, as we now have air-conditioning...a cold, stark atmosphere now settles over the rooms...

Well, the only reason I turn it on is for the heathen...it's been so cool at nights this year, that Scratchy hasn't shed all of her winter undercoat yet...and we've had so much rain, that I'm sure the mold is starting in the grasses again, causing her allergies to flair.

So no more wandering the prairies in search of the terrorist voles in the land of the pink chateau...Scratchy is banned to the fenced yard, where the grass is mowed...but, as you can tell from the picture, she seems content...(spoiled)...

But my air conditioner is set at 80 and only comes on when the hot breezes come pouring through the ol' screen door, as the afternoon sun creeps 'round to my front porch...then the lace curtains are released to filter the rays and windows are shut to block out the heat...fans at the ready...bring it on Mother Nature...sorry Beulah and Tilda up in Michigan that are still in sweatshirts...

More rains today, as I watch my tomatoes get the same blight they got last year from the cold nights and too much moisture...new strategy next year...container tomatoes! But the beans and peas and strawberries are loving it!!!

Is it summer yet...

Lazy...hazy rollin' hills of summer...

Most people think of Iowa as flat...that would be Nebraska...but the glacially carved hills of Iowa are truly the bread basket of the world. Rows and rows of corn grown on fertile plains, attest to the growing abilities of the farmers of the prairies.

I can't even imagine what it must have been like to plow these plains under with just a horse and plow...as the Amish still do today. Hard work being a farmer, no slouches on the homesteads, you grind out a living everyday as the rooster crows...sun-up to sun-down...it never ends...even in the winter.

This is what my days involve as I drive to Sisters' or to White, every week...sucks to be me, right...I have to take in all of this glory, as I drive that lonely back road...a day in the life...

New stuff at 'WHITE'...

Away to Sisters'...to garden...

Well, there is something good to be said about all the rains...our flower gardens are lush, almost like living in Florida. The beauty is vibrant and we just want to be out in it all day, playing with our toys...and boy, does Sisters' have a toy box...

White...white...white...everywhere you wonder are tables and chairs and urns and fencing and...

Go for a ride on vintage bicycles...

or plant vintage columns in your garden settings...

find the colors of your own palette, be bold and free...

then sit and rest and behold the beauty you have created in your own garden space...you deserve it...after all, you are woman...let's hear you roar!!!

and remember...always believe...

I'll ne'r see the sun...

I'll be your sunshine
as a withering sun fades
I'll brighten your day.

Hello surprise friend
who planted thee among us
you are welcome here.

Golden heads rise up
from Earthly beds of hope
seeking the sun ray.

From a garden's love
glowing here forever in
the promise of sun.

Well, as these next few dreary days progress, at least I'll see bits of the sun in the blooms that brighten corners all 'round my shack...

And a special thanks to Lori over at Altered Glass for the wonderful award, to which she truly deserves...thanks friend!

We're at it again...

Yes, we're at it again...Lorie and I will see just how much trouble we can get into now...we thought this was the perfect logo for these two 'White' girls...

We had a wonderful Saturday at Palo last weekend, we were visited by the CRAZY gals from Summer Sundays and Iowa Junk Gypsies...what a hoot! You can have fun in this biz along with all the hard work...you know, forced to shop ALL THE TIME...don't feel sorry for us...we'll manage!!!

But the locals were out in full force and so were the surrounding communities, all wanting to see what Palo has done after the devastating floods last year. Met several new dealers and friendships were formed.

So this is just to let you know that the funky 'White' blog is now open for business...(would that be 'monkey business')...who knows, you'll have to wait for the next chapter...

Shadow Shot Sunday...Emerald Shadow

She moved through the field
fragile green seas part
'midst fields of gentle dreams
primitive cultures
whisper
cultivate my immortal breast
come o'wistful soul
thresher of thy spirit
your silent sighs
beckon fearless songs
on the wind
the path I weave
my emerald angels shadow
bring to me sweet harvests
till the end of my days
and I will reward thee
with a gentle caress
and sonnets on the breeze
love speaks
on the constant
of each
new
day

I heart Iowa...and why do cows always stand on a hill...

...land of my birth, cultivator of my being...

...tall green fields in the making...

...what better view of my song of life...Iowa...my home, my heart!

Believe it or not, it's Sunday in Australia and Hey, Harriet wants to see your shadows...
please join in, you won't be disappointed...

White...or not...

I love these old mahogany buffets...can you see this in the kitchen as a work center...or in a bathroom as the sink cabinet. I usually don't pick these up anymore because of the weight factor, but it was in really good condition...after several minutes of balking, I caved, knowing how cute it would be painted black...and they sell really well up at Sisters'...soooo...

Whatta ya think, isn't it perfect in black, besides the lil' store in Palo just hasn't the space for such a large piece...but ya gotta do what ya gotta do...Sisters' or bust...
