We wait in silence...

The intrepid 'clammer' awaits the Spring thaw, as we all must...
it's Winter in Iowa
in the Midwest...

Winter has us in dead-lock, the Mighty Mississippi lies dormant, barges wait at the gait, the lock and dam in the distance see no traveler near or far...

An historic river city waits, shrouded in gloom...
history looms...

A majestic sycamore show off it's winter whites
in the misty cloaks of a season's sleep...

...and a frigid boat dock waits and waits, as Winter runs it's course...there is beauty still...
Yes, Winter is a waiting game for all in the Nor'lunds
and patience is the game...sigh...

Ah, but think what is yet to come as the season turns and Spring shyly enters - such joy :-)

Muscatine is such a cool little town. I love that grand cream colored home on the river. I wonder what it looked like at its peak. Hang in there, we got a nice melt yesterday and I'm keeping my fingers crossed that this dirty snow from Christmas Eve is completely gone soon!

I agree with Kelly, that river front house is awesome! Must have some great woodwork stairways, crown molding, hardwood floors, raised panel doors... Spring is just around the corner, Sharon! Scratchy will be chasing squirrels in no time!

What amazing wintry views from Iowa ... beautiful to look at but I suspect I'd be eager for Spring if I lived there too. Today I'm enjoying the rain in Southern California ... watching a bit of tennis from Australia recorded overnight. Seems it's raining THERE too.
Hugs and blessings,

Yes, but the roads and sidewalks look clear. This is good!

That sycamore shot is gorgeous. We're seeing the same weather here -- gray, gloomy and damply cold.

Our snow has finally melted. Your pictures look very peaceful. No matter what, we have to go thru winter. Might as well make the best of it. Think I'll take a nap. Plus, I'm reading "The Help"-- so good. Peace. Jan

Sharon, I was planting bulbs today, (yes, I know I'm late but the ground was thawed out) and a bee was buzzing me. Methinks the bee knows something I don't - spring is coming!

while i mostly grumble about winter, there is a silent still beauty to it also. you have managed to capture it.

i may still sit and grumble, as my road is slick with ice...but for the time it was nice to see your view from iowa.
in fondest. Tilda

I know that this is the time of the big freeze, but these wintry photos have a very special, unique beauty!
