A tour of a once flourishing past...

Think of the society that built this past, a Victorian era of flourish. A new country, a new found wealth, prosperity everywhere...where has it gone...river cities all over the state have gone to ruin, as well as all over the United States, as greed pushes manufacturing out of the country where child labor and unscrupulous business practices are overlooked by corrupt law officials and city officials...just look away and the poor suffer even further degradation.
As I wander the streets of Burlington Iowa, I see the same thing as in my little burg, attorneys offices, insurance offices, real estate offices...gone are the establishments that serviced the people and made the communities what they were. These are the only business' making money these days... do you see anything wrong with this picture...

Sharon, I see lots wrong w/ it. These types of practices have just about taken over our town as well and they've either torn down the houses to make room for lawyer's offices or they "mysteriously" burn down. Sad isn't it...

There are so many modern buildings vacant because of the economy in my neck of the woods.

So sad. We hv driven past towns like these & thought "where are the people?".

We worry about this in Mt vernon too- especially since we have such a small main street area- but these greedy SOBs just keep jacking the rent on the spaces until those are the only people who CAN afford to be there...And then people wonder- where did all the small shops go?

MORALE: Support local shops that matter to you!

What a shame! I love old buildings and would love to live in one and have a shop down stairs. Not only is the rent high in these places the taxes are sky high as well!
