Shadow Shot Sunday...the chicken herder...

Tools of the trade...
As a rule, my birds wander the yard on their
bug hunts, but when I leave, they have to get caged
and sometimes this can be a real challenge!!!

Little did I know I had the best round-up tool
right in the soon as I pick it up they all
run for cover in the coop, it's like a
"coyote on a stick"...
no more walking around the yard
arms outstretched like I'm an airplane
or an idiot...which ever comes first...

Yup...I'm master of my game,
my trusty poop-pusher at my side...
does life get any better!!!

Check out the peeps down under...
Hey Harriet, whassup!!!

I suppose that the chickens may tire of their usual healthful meals, yet when they can capture a bug or two, that is a real treat! Alas, they have to be safe, so the pen is the place to be when necessary...parenting can be tough love, indeed!

LOL......Coyote on a stick indeed!!
Who Knew?? Whatever works!
I can just hear you..."don't make me get out the push broom!!"

Love your "coop sign" by the way.

Oh that is too funny. My tool is a broom handle, minus the broom head. I use it like a shepherds crook and herd them in the direction I seek. I am glad I am not the only chicken herder out there.

You tell the most delightful tales! Someday I'd like to see you in action, herding the hens back into their yard with that broom!

Shadows here and shadows there,
Shadows, shadows everywhere!
Shadows left and shadows right;
Shadows dancing through the night!
Shadows crouching on the wall;
Shadows spring and shadows fall
On the unsuspecting guest,
Who thought shadows offered rest!

When I first got chickens, each afternoon we would have to chase 30 chickens into the coop, some escaping while others tried. It was exhausting. Little did we know, after 2 difficult weeks, they go up by themselves just before dark. We felt so foolish. If a storm is coming, they will stay out even later than usual. Don't know why.

Still chuckling here about the Hen Hilton! Not to mention the mix of plane and coyote antics! The winter wind may be howling outside here but the warmth of this vision diminishes all that!

Not often do I spend blogging time with politics, but today was an important day for this country! Our Prime Minister Julia Gillard presented her carbon tax reform agenda! It's big news here and dominated a large part of news bulletins throughout the day! Essentially we will all be given a tax levy to fund reduction of carbon emissions. There appears to be a package to cover those with lower income. Of course, industries will be heavily taxed. The intention is good, but I'm not so sure that the guarantees are clear in the execution.

(End of political review!)

Meanwhile, I am still churning out poetry and photos and loving it!

Have the best weekend dearest sister!

That is so clever! I need to get one of those too. Most of my chickens stay in their yard and the pasture, but the Ameraucanas especially love to get out and wander around the yard. Usually a little scratch temps them back, but one can never have too many useful tools.

This is so funny!

Love the Hen Hilton sign, and the "coyote on a stick" concept.

And of course some nice shadows.

Happy Friday (better to visit late than never!)
