Teen bean...

WOWZA...!
talk about a growing spurt, these are the same sprouts
from yesterday's shot, just goes to show ya what a
90 degree, high humidity day will do in Iowa.

LUNCH...I cooked up the first batch of beans,
not enough to can or freeze and besides, you have to
eat the first batch anyway...I think it's the law
or sumthin'...add a fresh from the vine sliced tomato
to the mix and you got lunch...
Scratchy loves green beans too!
BEGGAR!!!

Say hello to my lil' friend...
last year there was a baby toad hatch out at the
mall, they were getting in under the doors out there,
so I was gathering them up to bring home...
my first years crop...HA!

The newly planted bean patch,
next year, twice this size!!!

Spaghetti squash...one of my faves!!!

I always plant my cukes on the same fence as the
snow peas, by the time the peas are done,
the cukes have taken over, can you say relish...
and sweet chunks, if I get enough!

and more rhubarb for the freezer...mmmmm,
those pies will be tasty this winter...
I can't believe I said the 'W' word,
shiver me timbers...
enjoy!

I am envious of your toads!!
I haven't seen any here for a few years. And we have a fairly large pond. I hear frogs at night, but never see toads anymore. Probably a tradeoff for having the owls....

Your beans look yummy!! Can't wait for mine!!

It all looks so good! Except frogs really freak me out. I am not sure why but they do.

You cant have too many toads, that is for sure. A great 'crop' to have so your other crops can be happy.

Can't believe the vegies you're already getting. I must have been late this year. Is there anything better then going out & picking your dinner???? Happy 4th! Jan

Of course the gardener has to eat the first batch! It's the rules. Love your photos.

..there is just about nothing better than the first picking of green beans, unless it is tomatoes or the first potatoes!
we are far behind you here. it will be a few weeks yet before we have our 'firsts'.
i have a toad too, but don't know where he is yet. he usually about scares me witless on the first sighting as he moves, and of course my first thought is any Fritz the Anaconda, resident barn snake F.lings, but after that he no longer scares me. i wait with baited breath for the first sighting of both.
in fondest. Tilda
